3 positive health habits to start in 2017

Making healthy lifestyle changes doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Here are three easy habits to incorporate into your life that will help to improve your diet, boost your energy levels and help your body function better.

1 Move your body

We all know that exercise is good for us, but if you’ve been less than active for the past few months (or even years), the prospect of working out can be daunting. If the thought of a spin class leaves you cold, why not try some fun and manageable activities to get you back into the swing of things? Start a weekend hiking club with friends, join a dance class, take the dog for a daily 30-minute walk, sign up for a yoga class, or join a local walking group. The idea is simply to get moving and do something you enjoy.

2 Make your own lunch

It might be more convenient to grab a pie or a packet of chips from the office cafeteria, but packing your own lunch is definitely worth the extra prep time and effort. Here’s why: Firstly, bought lunches don’t come cheap so by making your own you’ll be saving money. And secondly, you’ll have control over what you’re putting into your body. Packing a lunch means you can ensure that you’re getting a healthy mix of good quality proteins, vegetables and fruit. Good choices include soups, salads, wraps or even leftovers from last night’s supper.

And here’s a tip: Plan your lunches in advance and do your shopping on the weekend, so by the time Monday rolls around, you know exactly what you’re eating and you have the ingredients on hand.

3 Drink more water

Feeling thirsty isn’t the only way your body tells you it needs water. Headaches, dizziness and fatigue are also signs of dehydration. So an easy way to keep your energy levels steady is to make sure you drink up throughout the day – and we mean water, not tea, coffee or fizzy drinks. If you’re not all that keen on the taste of plain water, try keeping a jug on your desk and add fruit slices, a handful of berries, or lemon and mint.
